Exodus Overview
In this beginning lesson as we explore the Book of Exodus, we will examine the significance of this book as it relates to the rest of the Bible. We will also discover that this second book of the Bible is really a continuation of the narrative of the Book of Genesis.
-
Exodus Chapter 1
How and why did the children of Israel become slaves of the Egyptians? How was God favoring them in the midst of suffering? Why didn’t this Pharaoh recognize the relationship that Joseph held with a past pharaoh and what he did for Egypt. This lesson addresses these questions as the story of a nation unfolds.
-
Exodus Chapter 2
How does God respond to the needs and cries of His people? The answer is by appointing an instrument, but before that instrument can fulfill his/her call, they must be prepared.
-
Exodus Chapter 3
How does God call a prophet? This chapter addresses the prophetic call of Moses to be a deliverer of Israel. Yet, Moses is reluctant. We will address why and what God did to build security in his chosen prophet.
-
Exodus Chapter 4
Moses expresses reluctance to God’s call for Moses to be God’s instrument to rescue Israel from Egyptian slavery. Moses gives four excuses why he is the wrong choice. On his fifth excuse and suggestion for God to choose another, he provokes God’s anger. Find out why Moses was so reluctant to God.
-
Exodus Chapter 5
Aaron and Moses prophecy to Pharaoh, “ Let my people go so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert.” Pharaoh’s response was to require the Israelites to supply their own straw to make brick. Moses' grit and courage is tested.
-
Exodus Chapter 6
The children of Israel are suffering under Pharaoh’s edict of “same quota of bricks but get your own straw.” They definitely do not want to hear about promises from God anymore, yet God now declares the next thing He will do: He will redeem the Israelites by His outreached arm and mighty hand. Pharaoh will begin to feel the full force of God’s judgment
-
Exodus Chapter 7
The contest between Yahweh and Pharaoh begins. Moses’ staff turns into a snake. The Egyptian magicians copy it but Moses’ snake eats their snakes. The Nile is then turned to blood. Yet, these signs only harden Pharaoh's heart. This lesson will reveal why.
-
Exodus Chapter 8
Pharaoh hardens his heart and refuses to let the Israelites go into the wilderness to worship Yahweh. Matters get worse for Egypt as God brings frogs, gnats, and flies to destroy Egypt. The magicians cannot match the acts of God. Pharaoh relents but then changes his mind. Greater plagues will come.
-
Exodus Chapter 9
Pharaoh continues to harden his heart toward Yahweh’s demand to let Israel go. Now God will bring the full force of His wrath upon Pharaoh and Egypt by bringing a plague on Egypt’s livestock, boils, and hail. Even after all this, Moses knows that Pharaoh and his officials still do not fear the Lord.
-
Exodus Chapter 10
Pharaoh continues to harden his heart toward God’s demand to “let my people go.” Now God will bring such a plague that goes beyond a nuisance to a plague that will lead to starvation and death. God will bring a swarm of locusts that had never been seen by the Egyptians. Pharaoh will ruin his country through stubbornness.
-
Exodus Chapter 11
Pharaoh has threatened Moses that he will kill Moses if he appears before Pharaoh again. At the same time, God speaks to Moses that he will bring the final plague of taking the life of all firstborn sons who live in Egypt with the promise that this time Pharaoh will let God’s people go.

Exodus Chapter 12 - Pt. 1
God instructs Moses to have the children of Israel go to their Egyptian neighbors and ask for gold, silver, and clothing. It is the night of the Passover: God will Passover every Hebrew house that has the blood of a lamb or goat painted on the side of each doorpost and the top of the door to their house. The death angel will enter every house whose door is not covered with blood and take the life of the Firstborn of that house.

Exodus chapter 12 - Pt. 2
God instructs Moses to have the children of Israel go to their Egyptian neighbors and ask for gold, silver, and clothing. It is the night of the Passover: God will Passover every Hebrew house that has the blood of a lamb or goat painted on the side of each doorpost and the top of the door to their house. Exodus Chapter 13
The Children of Israel have left Egypt and are on their way to the promised land. Untrained, ignorant, and unfamiliar with the Promised Land, these two million people are led away from the short coastline route to Canaan and redirected to desert in te south by the Red Sea. They are also instructed to offer every firstborn of man and animal to God.
-
Exodus Chapter 14
The Lord instructs the Children Of Israel to move away from the coast and head Southeast to the desert and the shores of the Red Sea. Pharaoh sees this as the children of Israel are confused and trapped; however, it is all a part of God’s plan to destroy Pharaoh’s army and glorify Himself over Egypt. The children of Israel are finally free from Egypt.
-
Exodus Chapter 15
The Lord has swallowed up Pharaohs chariots in the Red Sea. The Israelites celebrate with song and dance. The great victory is short lived, though, as the Israelites make a three day journey into the wilderness and find no water. Once again, The Lord gives Moses a prophetic directive to throw a branch into the bitter waters of Mariah. Yahweh reveals Himself as The Lord Who Heals.
-
Exodus Chapter 16
The children of Israel journey from Elim south on the Eastern border of the Red Sea to a region called the Desert of Sin. There, they have no food and grumble yet God will meet their daily need and supply a supernatural food called manna.
-
Exodus Chapter 17
God leads Israel from one place to another which leads them to a place called Rephidim, a place where there is no water, and once again, Israel must learn to trust God as He brings water to them out of a rock. To make matters worse, the Amalekites attack Israel at Rephidim. They must fight and trust God also to fight for them.
-
